where does he get it?

Tonight for dinner, Egan got to try a new food... edemame in the pod. Being the veggie eater he is, I knew he'd have fun with it. He did, just in a different way than I expected. I tought him how to squeeze the pod over his plate to get the bean out, discard the leftover pod, and eat the bean. He was hooked. I think he ate more than I did. Then, out of the blue, he did this.

Know what that is?

It's a moustache, and he did this totally unpromped. I about fell out of my chair. Here's a little video I thought I'd share. (click on the image below to view video.)

You guys, this kid is funny. Think he gets it from his daddy? Also, can you just imagine the little boy humor in our house 2 years from now? oh my.

a natural

IMG 7390

Last week, the playgroup visited a little gym to let the kids play.  You might have guessed... Egan loved it.  He loved the trampolines, bars, balance beam and everything else there.

This was a really long trampoline that the kids really enjoyed running up and down.

He climbed up and down this ladder too.  I didn't get a picture, but he also hung on to some rings and swung off a little ledge.  Dare devil?

The other kids had a blast as well.  Marshall was fearless on the balance beam.

It was a great indoor activity for a bunch of rowdy 2 year olds while the weather is 100+ degrees!

some things...

Some things we've done this summer...

My camera didn't make it on this trip, but Egan made his first trip to Family Reunion!  Blake's extended family meets yearly in Joplin, MO.  He had a BLAST running, playing and staying up late.  We had fun catching up with some cousins who we used to get to see more frequently.  Egan actually did great on the car trip thanks to a stash of NEW "Cars" toys I pulled out along the way.  He hasn't put them down since. (not kidding...)

(You should notice that even his underwear are "Cars"... and this from a family who usually tries to avoid all things character. I know.)

We made a trip for July 4th to see my family.  The highlight for Egan was a ride in Grandad's airplane.

IMG 7195

Notice I say a "ride" and not a "fly".  All wheels stayed securely on the ground.  They just taxied down to fill up with gas.  Egan couldn't have been happier though.  He LOVES airplanes and to get to ride in one, wear a headset, and (gasp) even (pretend) steer was so much fun.

After they filled up with gas, we watched grandad take off into the sunset and then took Egan back to get ready for bed. Egan was PUMPED.

We've also been having lots of fun with the playgroup this summer.  One recent outing was to an indoor safari.

IMG 7261

All the kids had a blast on the little train and on the slide and in the ball pit.  Egan was moving nonstop the entire time we were there.

We've also had plenty of fun at home.  Most recently the fun was in the form of large bubble wrap. Since it's been so hot, it has meant playtime indoors in the afternoon.  I'll take a toddler jumping on bubble wrap to toddler running crazy any day!

Well, It's officially been one of those weeks.  It's been hot for a while now.  Like 100+ hot daily.  I can actually handle the hot except for when the air conditioner isn't working so well.  That is just what happened to us this last weekend. We had a repair man over late Friday night.  You know, it's funny how things change.  We used to have much more fun things to do on Friday nights, and well much more fun things on which to spend our $ than an air conditioner. The guy tweaked a few things and gave us some options on what we could do to get it working better. When on Saturday, our house was still HOT, we decided to add some insulation to our attic.  This was when our neighbors officially added us (Blake) to their "crazy list".  Egan went to play with a friend on Saturday while Blake and I spent a fun filled evening blowing insulation into one very hot attic.  I stood in the front yard and fed the machine while Blake baked in the attic. It was awesome. Just a note to anyone thinking of doing the same... Don't do it in July.  If you have no other option, neighbor Jim says to do it at 7am.  We didn't have either luxury.  One thing we did that worked very well was to plug earphones into our iphones and had one long phone call while we were working.  It served several purposes, one being I could be sure blake hadn't passed out in the attic.  The other was that I was able to adjust the feed speed as we went.  So far, I think it has made a huge difference.

A/C woes behind us, we had some more fun today.  Blake was on his way home from work and texted to say his car wouldn't start, but that he was able to be jumped and was headed to a nearby auto store to get his battery checked.  When he arrived at the auto store he had more issues with the battery and they were going to try to charge it for an hour or so. (This may not be ALL accurate... I wasn't there.)  At this point, he called to see if I could come get him so we could make it where we needed to on time.  Crazies things was that MY car battery was dead too!  Ryan, a friend, picked Blake up and let us borrow his car for the evening.  We grabbed dinner and went to our church where we were serving as "table leaders" for a new parent's class. I was shocked when we weren't even late.  Its been a full day... er... week.  Here's hoping for a much "duller" rest to the week.

(Edited to add... this photo.  Egan saw me checking the temperature by standing on this stool.  He did this repeatedly throughout the day.)

And because this wouldn't be my blog without a cute picture or two of Egan...

It was actually taken a couple of weeks ago, but I never got around to posting it.  He LOVED the cupcake, and made quite the mess of it as well!

just running

I've been a little MIA for the last little bit. It's summer and we've been going in full force.
Tonight after dinner, Egan did a bit of running in the front yard to get rid of that last bit of energy.

He ran to every tree in our front yard and back, and then to the neighbor's trees and back. Running everywhere.

Then, he rolled in the grass with daddy. Fun end to a long, hot day.

Oh yeah, and fun times... our a/c has decided not to work so great on the hottest days of the year. SIGH.
