We walked around town for a bit and then started our hike up to Dewey Lake. We were armed with our camera, water, jackets, a map, and newly purchased hiking shoes. The start of the hike was steep and rough. So much so, the couple that started just before us, turned around. It just so happens they turned around just before it got a lot easier. So, no pictures of the hard part... the camera didn't make it out.
You will see our jackets didn't get worn long. It really turned out to be a beautiful day and we didn't need them!
We took the hike kind of slow for a bit to look around and take in some of the details. AMAZING, the beauty we saw.
This area is a rain forrest, so it was super lush.
Finally, we reached "Lower Dewey Lake". There wasn't a breath of wind, and the sights were well worth the steep hike.
We hiked around the entire thing.
Somewhere along the way, the terrain changed from a trail to rocks. Several times we questioned if we were still going the right way. I also questioned what was ahead...
Along the way, we came across this river. We stopped so I could take some pictures. I was sad I didn't bring my tripod so I could get some cool moving water shots. I improvised and laid down on the small bridge and supported my camera that way. Also, I didn't breathe.
This was taken on our decent down the mountain.
and overlooking our ship.
We went back to the ship for some lunch so we could rest our feet and also because it was free there. The clouds continued to dissipate and we were left with beautiful views of mountains.
After lunch, we went back into town to explore a bit more where Blake found this gem.
Skagway... some cute buildings.
And the main street. It was such a cute, small town!
This building's facade was made totally out of found driftwood! Also, they had a public restroom inside. It was nice too. :)
We had a fabulous day exploring Skagway, but we were tired, so we started walking back to the boat in time for dinner. The clouds had cleared even more since earlier in the day, so more pictures were in order.
We enjoyed our dinner while setting sail from Skagway. Upon getting back to our state room, this was the view from our balcony.
The sky was blue, the water calm, and the mountains topped by snow. It was after 9pm and beautiful.
And, because it is just so fun... the towel animal.
