Egan's new buddy ... maybe

Meet Maggie, Egan's new dog (maybe). Maggie's family, some friends of ours, were looking for a new home for her because they were unable to keep her anymore. I say maybe because she is currently here on a temporary basis as we decide if she fits into our family. Egan and Maggie have made fast friends and so far she has been really good with him.

Bo, on the other hand isn't so amused by Miss Maggie. He has done better than I expected, but he still gets a bit territorial, and I guess that's fair since this is "his" house. He had already been spending more time the last few weeks on the back of the sofa to get out of the way of Egan's grabs and constant chasing, but here he was on his perch the other day.

Maggie likes to interact with Egan, and anything that he has is interesting... even some mail he found on the table.

Speaking of Egan getting mail off the table, Egan is INTO EVERYTHING. I think I've said that before, but here are a few shots of him as I followed him around one afternoon (and pulled him out of places he shouldn't be).
I took this picture just after the washer finished washing, so that is why the light is on. Egan thought that was so cool.

Then it was on to the bathroom to see what was new in there (nothing).

Things that he also did that I did not get a photograph of include:
- Use his highchair (with wheels) as a walker across the tile floor in the kitchen.
- Walk along all the kitchen cabinets making sure they are all locked.
- Dash to the freezer every time it opens so he can try to pull stuff out and... I don't know he just likes doing it. (Our freezer is a drawer on the bottom of our fridge.)
- Climb on the dishwasher so he can try to pull the silverware and dishes out. I don't allow it since there are sharp things.
- Chase dogs.
- Slam things on the floor... repeatedly.
- Crawl into his bedroom, play, and throw balls all over... oh yeah, and dig a paci out of his crib. They are only allowed in there.
- Empty the toy basket.
- Dig more pacis out of the crib.
- Scream when mom has to go to the bathroom.
- Find the dog bowl and splash all the water out.
- Find a tiny piece of fuzz or something on the floor that belongs in mouth. sigh.
- Find way back to the dog bowl and splash water out again.
- Attempt to eat dog food. Tonight he almost got a piece of Maggie's food in his mouth. Almost. That was a close one.
Seriously, this kid is always on the move, but I don't know that I would have it any other way. Along with all that moving come a lot of sweet, sweet smiles. Much like this one.

Yes, I just posted pictures of my laundry room (actually closet) with stuff on the floor and clothes piled high on top of the washer and bathroom with shower curtain open and toilet in the foreground. I'm just cool like that. Not. I do this more for my memories than anyone else. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
Welcome to our crazy house, Maggie!

adventures in eating with Egan

Egan is a funny kid. Here are some new "mealtime fun" pictures from the last few days.
Guess who loves chocolate pudding...

Egan loves chocolate pudding.
We gave him a taste of ours when we finished our pudding cups (yum). He thought it was the best thing ever.

Blake gave Egan his spoon once he had finished and Egan thought that was so fun.

In fact, it was all fun and games till dad had to wipe off his face and hands. Who knew that could be so bad?

(Yes, Egan was still wearing his pjs at lunch time. We were having a lazy day and they keep his feet warm on our cold floors.)
Here are some more mealtime pictures. For lunch, I fixed him a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich just like mine.

I cut it up into small bits and also gave him some pickle bites.

He actually preferred the pickle to the sandwich, but he ate quite a bit of both. Bo thoroughly enjoyed the leftovers as well.
I'm not sure what is with this grin today, but he kept doing it, and I think it is super cute. Looks like Egan is learning to smile for the camera!

Egan says, "yum! Mom should cook this stuff more often!"

(Yes, the neck of his shirt was a bit big and hanging super low. I even found bits of sandwich and pickles on his belly at his next diaper change. Yum, nothing like saving a snack for later!)

a lot of Egan

After last week's crazy events including a fat lip and a double ear infection, I thought it was time for some new cute, happier pictures. After our rough day Thursday (that I shared about here) and another rough night Thursday night that resulted in Egan in our bed (something that hasn't happened since he was a newborn), we decided that it was most likely an ear infection. It was. Thankfully, he is now on the mend just in time for what I suspect is another tooth. It is always something!
Anyway, here are some fun pictures I took of Egan this weekend. Pictures weren't planned so his clothes are a bit disheveled, but represent Egan on a typical day. He thankfully only had one stain on his jacket by this point!

The many faces of Egan. Every picture has a different expression. How can I pick a favorite?

Egan is waving at everything these days, and picture time is no different. I love it.

Egan was NOT a fan of the grass. Every time we put him down in it, he made the funniest faces and really didn't want to put his hands down in it.

He had so much fun crawling and walking around all the rocks. The weather was nice, light was awesome, and I had a happy boy to work with! Perfect!

a tough mom day...

...but we got through it.
It all started with Egan refusing to nap before we went to playgroup. Blake did everything he could to get the kid to nap and it didn't work. He fell asleep on our way there, but he needs to sleep a lot longer than 15 minutes. We had lunch and went to baby bounce with our playgroup and all went fine. Egan wasn't super happy and having fun, but he wasn't that fussy either. He fell asleep for a few minutes on the way home, but woke up during the transfer. Bummer. Nap time over. We played a little bit this afternoon, but then because Egan was super tired, he got pretty fussy. I tried to get him to nap again, but he only slept for 15 minutes again this time. Then Bo threw up on the floor, and because he had thrown up, he was hungry and whining loudly. At this point, I had a sad baby and a dog that wanted all my attention and I couldn't take it any more, so I decided it was time for a change of scenery. Time for a walk.
(Please excuse the blurry pictures that are to follow. They were all taken with the iPhone, and all but one were taken while walking and pushing the stroller.)

... and walk we did. For almost an hour.
The weather was beautiful, and Egan didn't make a peep the whole time. I think being out in the sunshine helped him to be in a better mood. Bo had fun "watering" the entire neighborhood. I got some exercise. It was all around good! It got even better when this happened.

He wasn't really sleeping deeply, but he kept dozing off. He was fighting the sleep for sure. I just snapped this picture mid walk as to not wake him.
I even successfully wore Bo out. He finished the walk from the basket of the stroller. He is an old dog, you know!

Then, he figured out he could look out the front of the stroller under Egan's feet and spent the rest of the walk that way.

Here we are pulling up to the front steps. Can't you tell Egan is a happy camper? No? Trust me. He was.

And Bo? He's been napping all evening. I'd call the walk a roaring success.
Now, Egan's in bed and Blake is almost home. Yay!

he's all boy

Yep, that's a fat lip, and it happened last night just before bed. I had already gotten him in his pjs and we were just playing in the floor for a little bit before time for sleep. Egan was practice standing with no hands when he stumbled and hit his lip on the floor. He cried for a little bit but then went on playing. That was when I noticed his lip was a little big. I felt bad especially since just last week it was a bump on the head.
Just so no one worries, here's a smiley picture of my sweet boy. By the way, his lip is back to normal today.

While all this was going down, Bo was being unusually feisty with his new donkey toy. Thanks to my parents for the most annoying toy ever.

Egan and Bo had fun digging all the toys out of the basket right before bed. Bo was on the hunt for his hotdog and Egan was on the hunt for anything with buttons. He ended up with the remote that happened to be left on the floor when he fell.

Why is it my living room always ends up looking like a tornado came through it? It's an uphill battle with these three (!) boys I live with. Oh well.

two words

Today at lunch, Egan put two (TWO!) words together! We were eating and Blake and I were talking to each other and all of a sudden Egan looks up at Blake waves and says "Hi, Dada." We were shocked! He's been waving for a while, and we've been saying "Hi, Dada", "Hi, Mama" and "Hi, Egan", but today was the first time we've heard him repeat anything. He was so proud of himself and we were so proud of him as well! Great job, Egan!
(These pictures were taken the other day during lunch, but I thought they fit with this post. In the following picture, he is waving but not saying anything.)

(keep reading for our most recent baking adventure)

he knows me.

We celebrated Valentine's Day early this year. Remember? Even though we already celebrated together, we did a little more on Sunday. When Blake got home sunday afternoon, he showed up with a dozen Rosas.

... as in a dozen Rosa's tortillas. YUM! My favorite! How sweet is he? What makes it even sweeter is that he had to call a friend that lives close to a Rosas because there is none close to here. Thanks sweetheart!
We also did a little baking. This was much more successful than our last try at baking.
Check out these yummy cupcakes!

They are "red hot" red velvet which is red velvet cake with cinnamon cream cheese icing. YUM! They were way easier and way better tasting than our try at cake footballs. What a fun day!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

the science experiment

We had some fun on Friday with some friends whose parents had some stuff they needed to do sans children. (We love the new car, guys!) In my book, big kids coming over means some sort of art project or "science experiment" is in order.
Once I got Egan down for a nap, it was experiment time. Look what we made!
First, Cole had the job of emptying the bottle of glue into the bowl.

Naiya got to dump the water in. Then, we decided to add some blue food coloring.

We then diluted Borax into some water and combined the two mixtures.

and mixed with our hands... This is where Naiya decided this was "gross".

Once it was mixed, it was time to play!

Look! We made flubber!

a success... valentine's came early this year.

Valentine's day came early this year. It came yesterday, in fact. Not for the rest of the world, really just for us. I planned a little get-away for us to The Great Wolf Lodge, got Egan and Bo places to stay, and got Blake two days off work... all without him knowing we were even going.
Yesterday, Blake woke up to a card on the nightstand telling him that we were going "somewhere" and that he wasn't going to work. We spent the morning hanging out together, got everything together, dropped Egan off and then dropped Bo off... then checked in to the hotel.
This was Egan's first night away from home, and I while I haven't gotten the full report, I think he did ok. We... well, we did fine too. Blake and I enjoyed our day spent together. Great Wolf was a blast. I mean, we climbed a lot of stairs, and that made me realize why sometimes it is good to have some lines at rides. It gives you a break! We rode all the slides, and rode our favorites multiple times. We also swam in the wave pool and the lazy river to which Blake said, "I don't get it. If it is a lazy river, why is there water that pummels you in the head? It isn't so lazy." Well Blake, I guess you are right. Maybe it should be called the super exciting, man-made river with tubes floating in it, and water that hits you in the face.
I don't have any pictures of the water-park because I didn't want to take my camera to the area full of water. Here are a few pictures from the last time we went. It was Egan's first time swimming!
After we had our fill of the water-park, we played a very ungrown-up game running (really, just walking) around the hotel on an adventure. We had to solve the riddles with these...

... our borrowed wands.
I took on "princess Leia" as my name, and Blake was "John Paul Jones". It was fun and silly. Yes, we are just big kids, and we are ok with that.

After a long day swimming, I fell asleep early and didn't wake till 9:30 this morning. Wow, that was nice. When we woke up, this was the view out our window.

How amazing is that?!? This was even at 9:30 this morning and it continued to snow for the rest of the day. We got A LOT of snow!
After we checked out of the hotel, we spent some more time in the water. It was kind of surreal to be in such a warm "summery" place while watching the snow fall outside. It was a great day and hopefully we can do it again! It will be even more fun when Egan is old enough to enjoy it as well!
We made our way home this afternoon, so I thought I'd share a few pictures of home and the snow.
Here's the view out our front window.

Our front walkway.

Our backyard.

and one more out the front.

Blake was nice to let me take a nap. This was my view.

Well, maybe it was more like this since I was laying down...

Unfortunately, Egan didn't want to let me have any shuteye, so I moved to our bed for a few minutes.
Tonight, after Egan went to bed we went outside to collect some snow to make snow ice cream. The light was so strange outside. These colors are real. The sky was pinkish and the neighbor's light was greenish. These were even taken at 8:30 pm! Crazy!

We even made our snow ice cream where we broke the cardinal rule. We ate yellow snow.

No, it wasn't yellow because of Bo's help. He won't step foot in the snow for any reason.
Could we have had any more fun? I think not.
