Egan has a new trick.

and again I'm shocked. I took this picture last week, but never got around to posting it. At that point Egan was so close to pulling up and standing on his own. We don't really have a lot that is the right height for him, so I piled these big floor pillows for him to practice his new skill.
He even used his head for support. How's that for talent?
Well, yesterday morning when Egan woke up at about 6:30, Blake went in to check on him, and he found Egan STANDING in his crib. That's a first! His crib was on the middle setting, so before bed last night, Blake moved the mattress down to the lowest notch so our little climber can't escape. We are entering an all new scary world!
By the way, he's already pulled up on my chair 3 times this morning. When he does it, you can just see the pride in his eyes. I'm so proud of my sweet boy!

he's not going to wait till he's 13...

(this was written last week, but I forgot to publish it... oops!)

... to eat me out of this house.

Here's what egan ate for lunch today.
- a bottle (with an hour break before food)
- a teething cracker
- egg yolk
- 2 ice cubes of sweet potatoes
- 1 ice cube of peas
- 2 ice cubes of pears
- 1 tablespoon of yogurt
WOW! He was one hungry boy!
... and boy was he a mess! Check out his hands... a mess.

He had food all the way up to the top of his head.

and we had tons of fun!

He studied that cracker some more...

Well, until he was so warn out he couldn't any more.

(he was not actually sleeping... just rubbing his eyes. He did take a nice long nap after this though!)
What am I going to do when he is a teenager!?!

we love fall.

and Fall here in Texas means green grass AND falling leaves.

Egan really can't get enough of the leaves, so before our walk this evening, I let him play in them, and I took a few (ahem, a lot) of photos.

He crunched, and tasted, and crunched some more.

And finally fell back and just relaxed in the soft bed of leaves.

I think Egan loves fall too!

Must love dogs

I think I might have mentioned before that Egan loves Bo. In fact, here he is staring at Bo.

His love of Bo hasn't changed, but I noticed yesterday that he was playing with all dog toys as well. I think it is just coincidence that I happened to pull out 2 dog toys yesterday, but here's Egan and all his dogs.

You can't see it here, but his pajama shirt has a dog on it as well.
Just for good measure, I have to share a smiley picture. Man, I love that kid!

I think I've said it before, but Egan is a true joy, and I think I've also said it before that HE IS GETTING INTO EVERYTHING. Everything. He isn't crawling in the traditional sense, but trust me. He is getting around just fine. He's also found a new use for the exersaucer.

Not only is the top seat a great place to play, but so is the "saucer" part. I did not put those toys in there. He did... all on his own.

He's also having a great time playing with Daddy lately. Could there be anything more fun than snuggling and getting raspberries from Daddy?

Or maybe giving his face a massage? That's always a fun one.

I tried to upload a little video, but couldn't get it to work on the blog, but here's a link. Really, it is nothing exciting, but really is a true picture of my days at home with Egan and Bo. Enjoy.
little video of egan... and bo.
So, yes, we are having tons of fun with our sweet little boy. tons of fun... even though he is into everything.

a rookie mistake.

Yeah, I'm a new mom... going through this raising a kid thing for the first time. Sometimes I feel like I'm a natural, sometimes, not. I made a rookie mistake though, and here's what I did.

I gave Egan his first teething biscuit... except it wasn't in his highchair, it was on the living room floor. I thought, "it's a cracker for him to gnaw on, no worries." Little did I know how messy those things are, and I quickly moved him to his highchair, but it was too late to save his shirt and mine.

Let me tell you. Fun was had in LARGE quantities.

... and Egan has a new favorite snack.

Helping daddy

This is what I found when I walked by the laundry closet yesterday morning.

Blake put him there because it was a great way to contain him.

Egan thought it was awesome because he could "help" daddy.

Do you think he can learn to do his own laundry before he's one?

another first!

Egan got to go swimming! Well, maybe he didn't actually "swim" more like he hung out in the super shallow end of a pool, but I think that counts. Here he is swimming at The Great Wolf Lodge last weekend.

He wasn't sure what to think at first, and before the camera came out, he even cried for a bit, but he finally decided the pool wasn't so bad.

He also enjoyed watching the bigger kids play in the water.

and finally decided he could sit on his own.

Here he is still watching the kids.

Then he decided to try a little crawling on his own.

Boy, was that fun!

I suggested that Blake take him over to this spot where water was squirting up from the bottom of the pool. He thought that was pretty scary, but Blake slowly convinced him that it wasn't so bad. He really trusts his Daddy!

... that is, till he got really close and the water shot up really high. He was still brave and didn't cry though!

He even let Daddy put him in the water.

Is it just me, or is that not an awesome picture of trust? Daddy said it was ok and wouldn't hurt, and even though he was scared, he trusted.
Hopefully Egan will continue to love the pool and we will have lots of fun in the coming years!

7 months already?

Dear Egan,
Today you turn 7 months old, and as usual, I cannot believe it. This has been a big month of changes. In the biggest of all changes, YOU ARE MOBILE! I simply cannot believe that. Gone are the days of putting you on a blanket and you would stay there. Also, gone are the days of leaving things out. You are getting your hands on any and everything you can see. Some of your favorites are leaves, Bo's toys and bones. yum.
You are also doing a great job at sitting and catching yourself when you start to fall. It is only a matter of time before you are grabbing and pulling up on things. I can see that you are already starting reach toward things like the couch or the railing on your bed. You can stand next to objects if we help you get there. You love toys, and at this age, I love that a new toy every few minutes keeps you fully entertained. You are also doing a great job riding in your stroller and watching everything and everyone around you. That is a HUGE help to us!
You have learned to clap, which is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen along with your big gummy grin. I couldn't be more in love with you, my sweet, happy boy.
You are still pretty set on your 8pm bedtime, but you adapted quickly and easily to the time change last weekend, which was a huge relief to both your dad and me. You have also relaxed a bit with your nap times and have learned to nap in the car set on the go.
As far as eating, you have really taken to solids and you now eat two solid meals a day, but we will be moving to three very soon. So far you like to eat:
  • butternut squash

  • pears

  • apples

  • sweet potatoes

  • peas

  • plums

  • bananas

  • spinach

  • plain yogurt

  • boiled egg yolk

  • garbanzo beans

  • rice cereal

  • oatmeal

So far, you don't care for:
  • green beans

You are a great eater, but by no means a neat one. You'd prefer that I just shovel the food in as quickly as possible and not clean you up as we go. At a typical meal, you eat 2 or 3 ice cubes of veggie, 2 cubes of fruit plus an egg yolk or yogurt and a cereal. That is a LOT!
We are right in the middle of fall, and the weather has been beautiful here. Almost every day we like to go out side and sit on a blanket and watch cars, people and dogs go by. You are almost always happy when we are out there.
You still LOVE Bo, and why wouldn't you? He is having to get used to the fact that you are now mobile and wanting to chase him. Yesterday he was trying to get my attention by barking and he was also coughing a little bit and you thought it was the funniest things ever. We've heard you laugh. You do it quite often, but nothing like you were laughing at Bo. It was the cutest thing ever!
You are at a age right now that is so much fun as you are learning and exploring new things everyday.
I love you,

Here are a few more pictures from our front yard the other day. We just love the fall colors and weather and this sweet boy's infectious smile!

Egan loves the leaves. The way they crunch in his hands...

The way they look...

Even the way they taste...

hmmmm... maybe he doesn't like the taste as much...

... but he's thinking about it!

Without a doubt, this photo needs a caption. Wouldn't you agree? Give it your best stab in the comments section. The sky is the limit! go...

ketchup... er, I mean, catch up. (alternately titled, the longest post in all of life.)

Where have we been? Well, in a word, everywhere.
Last week we had several playgroup functions. See the pumpkin patch below. Blake helped organize a concert at work, and also helped with a conference last weekend. Egan and I went with Blake overnight to the conference where Egan was a champ. For the most part, he hung out in his stroller, smiled at people, played with toys, and slept. How did we get such an awesome kid?
Egan has also been everywhere, as in everywhere he wants to be. The kid is on the move. He's not really a proficient crawler, but somehow he gets across the room and back. Here's proof.
He crawled over so he could see out the back door where Bo was.

You know that blanket that he lays on and I take his picture a lot?
Egan has made it his goal to not be on that blanket as much as possible. Well, maybe that isn't his goal, per say, but he is doing a great job at being everywhere in the room but on it.

And he's happy about it.
And he loves to play with toys.

And "scoot" around the room some more.

He's having a ton of fun with it and let's just say that life around here will never be the same.

We also had our playgroup over last Thursday. We had tons of fun, and while I didn't think to take many pictures, here are the few that I did take.
Check out my cupcake handiness. You know I really have everyone... and myself fooled that I can bake. I still don't know how they turned out edible.

Egan thought they looked good as well because as soon as I set them down on the blanket he was the only baby that lunged for them. Guess which cupcake I ate.

There are 13 moms that regularly get together, but I think there were about 9 that came over last week. Here are a few that came.

Marshall was a turtle for Halloween. He and Egan are one day apart and are both ALL BOY.

And because it has been a while since I posted pictures of Egan eating, we are long overdue. I'll fix that now.

I took these tonight as Egan was finishing his dinner. Would you believe me if I said that I was actually trying to keep him somewhat clean by wiping the excess food from his face after each bite?

Yeah, I wasn't successful.

He's now at the age where everything that he DOESN'T have he wants. This was his first grab at the camera.

"oh mom, you are so funny."

Look at this mess! He flung yogurt, sweet potatoes, and pears everywhere. everywhere.

He had it all in his hair, forehead lap, hands, and arms. Did I mention it was everywhere? I love it.

Here's another new trick.

Egan has started clapping. I'm not really sure how he learned that, but he is doing it, and we clap and say "yay!" every time he does it.

Here are a few more from after bath time tonight, you know, just in case you haven't had enough of Egan yet. See the paci out in front of him? that is priority number one.

and check. (He does that all by himself now.)

Next priority, toys.

and what else? clapping!

This is actually the only time today (when he wasn't sleeping) that he was still. The kid doesn't like to sit still... that is for sure.
In other major accomplishments, Egan has successfully accepted the time change. I was hesitant to say anything, but he is doing great! He has gone to bed at 8pm on the dot the last two nights without a tear! I was dreading him going to bed at 7 and getting up at 6 or 6:30. I know a lot of kids doing that, but I guess I'm selfish. Ok, I know I am. Blake got some blackout blinds that I hung up, in addition to the blinds he already had, to help make his room darker in the morning. I'll let you know tomorrow how that goes. I think I'm going to like it though.
