It was the first day of first grade and I was starting at a new school. It was a small school with only one teacher per grade and in that class was Crystal. We became fast friends and were inseparable for almost our entire elementary years.
Here we are in 3rd grade. That's us in the front row on the far right. I'm in the peach shirt and that is Crystal next to me. And yes, that is my mom... she was our 3rd grade teacher.
Here we are at a track meet... a three legged race. I've got a nice jacket, don't I?
Here we are the same day... in the bleachers.
We went to each other's birthday parties...
Mine usually were swimming parties...
nice hair, huh?
We were in Christmas productions together... Check out that Christmas sweatshirt. I really hope I wasn't singing there!
We were cool.
... and of course we dressed up in stupid outfits together. Who hasn't done that? Oh, you haven't?
Well, we did! and we OWNED it.
Did we have our arms permanently attached to each other's shoulders?
Oh man, those were the days.
I hadn't gotten to see or talk to Crystal in years until here recently she found me on Facebook. It just so happened that she was coming to Dallas one weekend so we decided to get together for some lunch at Chuy's. It was a blast and fun to get to introduce her to the two boys in my life and catch up on old times. We also got to hear about what she's been up to all these years. Good times were had by all, well, at least we had a good time. I shouldn't speak for her.
So, here we are... 20 years later. A lot has changed and could I have imagined 20 years ago that we'd be sitting in Chuy's both married and telling funny stories from our childhood? Not a chance, but it sure was fun.
