Here it is... I'm in the hospital... bummer, I know. Here's why:
On Wednesday I called the doctor because my blood pressure had continued to be higher than I'd like and I was also having headaches and nausea. I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday, but the doctor wanted me to come in on Wednesday anyway. He wasn't in the office that day, but his nurse ran some tests and reported to him. With the results, he decided it was time to head across the street to the hospital. Surprise to us! We thought we'd be home in a few hours. While in the hospital, they ran some more tests and decided to at least keep me over night. Surprise again! With those results in, the doctor told me yesterday morning (Thursday) that I'd be staying. It looks like I'll stay till the baby is born. Surprise! There you go. Since then it has been a steady flow of tests. (Let me take your blood pressure, temperature, lungs, heart rate, baby heart beat, monitor the baby and contractions, weight, pee in this bucket, draw some blood, test your reflexes... no lie... it has something to do with high blood pressure...) Needless to say, I'm being well taken care of, it just feels like an endless flow of people in here from 5 in the morning on. The nurses and techs are great and cheerful, so that makes a 5:30 am wakeup not as bad. They (my doctor and nurses) say the baby is doing well, and we'll take it a day at a time... For real. I keep trying to get it out of my doctor with at least a rough prediction, but he won't budge... haha. He did say this morning that "it looks like I'll make it through the weekend". I had no idea he was even thinking it could be that soon. If I were guessing though, I think it will be sometime in the next 3 weeks. I haven't heard a reason that they would let me go past 38 weeks. I think at that point the pros start to be weighed out by the cons. One other thing the doctor said was that most of the time babies born to moms with high blood pressure typically have more mature lungs than their non high blood pressure mom counterparts. Interesting, right?
Other than that, we're learning about what all the monitors mean and what they are looking for. In that, we have learned that our little guy looks great as he "plays" in my tummy. That's great news!
Blake has been super busy taking care of me here, and is doing a great job. Since we weren't expecting to be here, he has made a few trips home to get things we need. Also, to help take one thing off of Blake's plate, Bo is hanging out with my parents while I'm in here. He's had a crazy few days as well. The first night I was in the hospital, he went to stay with some sweet friends that offered to watch him last minute so Blake could come care for me. Blake went to pick him up yesterday though and he was more than excited to be reunited. He didn't know what had hit him! (and by hit... I don't mean literally.)
In nursery news, we (and by we, I mean... not me) have made a little more progress. Blake took a dresser that we got a few weeks ago and sanded it down to prepare it for repainting and then his parents came to help paint it earlier this week. They really did a great job. I'll see what I can do to get Blake to take a picture once it is in the room.
I'm also sad to be missing a shower this weekend. So sad! Blake was planning on going with me anyway, but I'm super sad that I don't get to come too. Hopefully he'll give me the scoop though. Darn, this high blood pressure sure isn't the most convenient thing!
I'll try to keep the updates here as I know what is going on, but like I said earlier, I don't really know what is going on. All I know is, we're doing fine. Baby is doing great. I have a constant head ache and am nauseous most of the day, but nothing I can't handle. Check back soon... maybe I'll know more then!
PS- there is a Chick-fil-a here in the hospital. Because of that, I know I'll be ok.
